Camera and OCR
Scanning Nike Shoe Box Labels
Camera framing, one label at a time, lighting, retakes, OCR limitations, colourway correction, and missing-field handling.
How to get the best scan
SneakerScan reads Nike shoe box labels using your iPhone camera. It looks for the style code, barcode, model name, colourway, and sizes on the label.
Use one label at a time. The label you want should be inside the rectangular scanner frame when you press the shutter button.
- Hold the phone steady and keep the label as flat as possible.
- Avoid steep angles, reflections, glare, and motion blur.
- Use bright, even light, especially on glossy or dark boxes.
- Move closer if the text is small, but keep the full label inside the frame.
What SneakerScan reads
SneakerScan tries to extract:
- Brand, model, colourway, and style code.
- UK, EU, US men's, US women's, and US kids sizes.
- Barcode, when available.
Nike adult labels may show both men's and women's US sizes. Kids labels usually show one primary US kids size, often with a suffix such as 3Y.
Stock scan vs price scan
The Stock tab uses Scan to add. This adds the scanned label to the selected stock list. The Scan tab is for price lookup. It uses the same scanning technology, then searches for matching marketplace listings.
Colourway correction
Colourways can be difficult for OCR because Nike labels use small text, line breaks, and unusual colour names.
When a valid style code is found, SneakerScan can ask the SneakerScan API for a cleaner colourway. If the API returns a colourway, the app uses that result. If not, it keeps the locally scanned colour when it looks reliable.
Incomplete scans
For stock control, SneakerScan needs enough information to identify whether a scanned shoe matches an existing row.
If the style code or EU size is missing, SneakerScan will not automatically increase an existing quantity. Instead, it warns you and lets you retake the scan or add a new stock row with the missing fields preserved for editing.
If scanning is inaccurate
- Retake the scan with the label centred in the frame.
- Improve the lighting and avoid glare.
- Move closer so the style code and size table are readable.
- Check the stock detail screen and edit any incorrect fields.
- If the same issue repeats, go to Settings > Help and Support > Report Scanning Problem.
